S.F.P.D. x Pierce’s Pledge Safe Gun Storage Program
In honor of Pierce's 14th birthday on July 27, 2025, we are pleased to announce the S.F.P.D. and Pierce's Pledge Safe Storage Partnership. The S.F.P.D. will now offer all residents the option to safely store their firearm(s) at any of the city's 10 police district stations.
S.F.P.D. supports the effort to reduce the risk of harm during family law matters and other crises by providing off-site storage of firearms. San Francisco residents can store their firearms for up to one (1) year, no fees.
Please note: firearms are not stored at any station, they are packaged and relocated to a centralized facility.
Steps to use the S.F.P.D. x Pierce’s Pledge program:
Bring the firearm(s) to any of the 10 S.F.P.D. locations.
Inform the Police Officer you are storing your firearm using the “Pierce’s Pledge Safe Gun Storage Program.”
Follow the Officer's prompts and receive the Property Receipt Form (SFPD315) for your records and property retrieval.
Retain receipt to ensure property retrieval within 12 months.
S.F.P.D. will contact you upon a year of storage if property is still in their possession.
How to safely drop off your firearm(s):
If possible, please call the station in advance to notify them that you want to drop off your firearm(s).
If you know how to safely unload the firearm(s), please do prior to dropping off firearm(s).
If possible, place a flex tie or other obstruction to lock open the chamber on a revolver or the slide on a semi-automatic handgun.
Lock your firearm(s) in a secure container. Ammunition should be placed in a separate box or specific ammunition can.
Do not enter the station holding a loaded or unloaded firearm in your hands or in a holster.
If you drive to the station, leave the firearm in its container inside your vehicle until given further instruction by station personnel.
This service is free for San Francisco residents. If this is an emergency, please call 911.
